DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE
The City of Virginia Beach, the most populous city in the Commonwealth of Virginia with approx. 430,000 citizens, is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader for the position of Director of Agriculture. The Director of Agriculture directs a full range of agricultural programs to meet the ongoing needs of the City's agribusiness and to enhance the City's agricultural environment. This position coordinates efforts involving the agricultural community through various programs and special events. The Director will provide recommendations on agricultural program/policy innovations and coordinate agricultural and rural preservation initiatives, including federal, state, and regional programs. The Director will also represent the City on agriculture-related issues with external agencies and the media. Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Public Administration, Government Operations, Business Management, or a similar program and 6 years management experience; or higher-level education and experience equivalent to 12 years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, including 5 years at the program management or administrator level. Salary is negotiable, DOQ, within the range of $76,695 - $115,043. Competitive fringe benefits and appropriate relocation assistance will be provided. FACULTY EXTENSION ASSISTANT
University of Maryland, Cooperative Extension, to work with the LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc. Wye Research and Education Center, Queenstown, MD. Person will be responsible for planning, implementing and leading a series of multi-day seminars and study tours, developing continuing educational opportunities, and teaching leadership skills. Bachelor's degree required. Preferred area of study is in education (agriculture, extension and/or adult), leadership development, public policy, or a related field of study, along with 2 years experience.
