The Blue Chinese

The Republicans are red.
The Democrats are blue.
Please tell me why.
I don’t have a clue.
Andy Rooney used to say “D’ja ever notice? Cuban refugees always head the boat north.”
D’ja ever notice that the party on the right, Republican, has somehow become identified with the color red? Republican states, identified electorally at national election time, are called red states.
Even Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hannity refer to the red states and the red party.
Weren’t the Communists the Reds? Who ever heard of Blue Chinese? And can you imagine the Red Russians holding still for being called Blue? Was not the color red the designated color of the far left? Don’t you remember when individuals on the extreme far left were referred to as “pinkos”? Whenever was pink a shade of blue?
Democrats in Congress who voted for President Clinton’s impeachment were known as the “blue dogs” not the red dogs.
Democrats in my memory have never wandered close to the color blue. For example, “yellow dog” Democrats is a term used in Arkansas. The late Congressman Wilbur Mills used to say “the people of Arkansas would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican.”
And I might add, yellow is likewise not a shade of blue.
Doesn’t anyone remember some 30 years or more ago, at the height of the Cold War when “peace groups” in the U.S. began circulating a slogan “Better red than dead?”
This was later countered by a group in New England with the slogan “Better Dead than Red.” However, when it was proposed that “Better Dead than Red” be placed on the state license plate, the idea was shot down.
What’s going on here?
Does Howard Dean see red every time he thinks of Republicans? Is that why he says he hates Republicans? Would he go so far as to prefer his own demise to being a Republican?
This is getting serious! Americans in general have been taught over the years to have an aversion to the color red when it involves political issues. The Red Chinese and Red Russians — or just simply the “Reds” — have been part of the American vocabulary for nearly a century, ever since Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin led the Communist takeover of Russian in 1917.
Has this color change been slipped over on the Republican Party as part of an extension of “political correctness” or something more sinister?
Apparently, the color change occurred following the year 2000 presidential election. It could have been a cheap political trick on the part of disappointed left wing Gore-supporting Democrats.
A window into this possibility is offered by Dave Leip, publisher of the “Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections.”
In a note to his subscribers: “This site uses blue for Republicans and red for Democrats. I know that most media outlets have the opposite color key in recent years.”
Dave Leip notes that in his 11 years of publishing election atlases, such a large volume of maps exist on his web site that a change in color “to match the media’s recent color choices requires a significant investment.” He indicates he will continue with Republican blue and Democrat red.
There you have it. The culprit is America’s far left media that slipped the red wool right over the open eyes of the Republicans.
America’s national amnesia, so prevalent these days, did the rest.
Ask this question: Was not the identifying color of the Republican Party blue? You will get one of these answers: “I don’t remember” or “I believe it was red all along.”
This is frightening. What else can a far left media with a sinister intent drop on the unsuspecting public?
It should have been the National Republican Party’s decision whether or not a color change should take place. Not the far left Democrats.
So, now, what are you red-blooded Republicans going to do about it?
Fox News has the masculinity to help!
