Mid-Atlantic states get millions
in federal farmland funding

With $2.7 million, Pennsylvania led Mid-Atlantic states and the nation in its share of federal farmland preservation funding announced by the USDA Sept. 6.
Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman released $323 million for the Farmland Protection Program and the Wetlands Reserve Program.
Delaware is getting $1.8 million for farmland preservation; Maryland is receiving $2.5 million; New Jersey, $2.2 million; Virginia, $1.5 million and West Virginia, $250,000.
Wetland Reserve funding to Maryland amounts to $450,000. Virginia is getting $300,000; New Jersey, $175,000 and Pennsylvania is receiving $200,000. Delaware and West Virginia did not receive federal Wetland Reserve funding. Nationally, Florida received the most Wetland Reserve money, $27 million.
