Jackson honored for service to agriculture
1.01.2008
Cambridge, Md. John Burtman, executive director for the Dorchester Farm Service Agency recently presented County Committee Philip Jackson Sr. with a plaque commemorating his 20 years of service to the Dorchester Farm Service Agency County Committee.
“Phil has been an integral part of the Dorchester committee system and has been the chairman for many years,” Burtman said. “He has always been level headed when formulating committee decisions and has provided knowledge about local farming practices and customs. ”
Jackson’s commitment to FSA and the committee system is unparalleled within Maryland FSA.
He was elected 20 years ago to his first three-year term and subsequently was re-elected for two more three-year terms.
During his third term, the elections procedures were under review and all committeemen had their positions extended for one year.
A year later, Jackson was elected to a one-year term during an interim election process.
After this year of service, he was once again elected to a three-year term and again subsequently re-elected to two more three-year terms, giving him a total of 20 years of consecutive service.
“Phil will be greatly missed on the committee but his replacement is no stranger to the committee system as his wife Diana Jackson was recently elected to take his place on the committee,” Jackson said. “I am quite confident that Diana will continue the tradition set forth by Phil as a hard working, fair, and responsible committee member.”
