Delaware foods marketed in Mid-Atlantic Region

11.02.04

Two Delaware food companies and the Delaware Department of Agriculture exhibited October 20-21 at the Mid-Atlantic Food, Beverage, & Lodging Exposition at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md. Carl Rolls (Delmarva Wholesale Bakery) of Milford and Harbor House Seafood of Seaford showcased their products to prospective buyers from the restaurant, food service, and hospitality industries in the region.
“The show was a great venue to explore new marketing opportunities,” said Carl Anderson, owner with his wife, Debra, of Carl Rolls. “Our business continues to grow. With our line of fresh rolls and our new frozen dough line, we hope to expand our sales outside the state,” he said.
Carl Rolls offers 10, different fresh-baked wheat or sweet potato rolls that look and taste homemade. Their unique and flavorful, sweet potato dinner and sandwich rolls are joined, this season, by two new products, the sweet potato multigrain small sub roll and the Ambergis Caye sandwich roll, a rich roll topped with a special white corn topping.
Located in Seaford, Harbor House Seafood sells an extensive line of the highest quality shellfish and fin fish available anywhere. Their specialties are clams, crab meat, and only East Coast oysters, the finest in the world. Harbor House’s new 1,500 square foot state-of-the-art USDC-inspected cutting room and trained staff ensure only premium, fresh seafood is sold.
“Our business has expanded to include many restaurants and food brokers in Maryland and northern Virginia,” said Jack Holt, seafood buyer with Harbor House. “With our company fleet and new cutting room expansion, Harbor House guarantees only the finest seafood reaches our customers,” he said.
At the expo, the Delaware Department of Agriculture distributed the Delaware Specialty and Value-added Food Companies directory to regional buyers. The directory is a comprehensive listing of Delaware companies offering an array of specialty and value-added foods for wholesale and retail. The directory features many of Delaware’s unique food products: breaded and value-added poultry; specialty and branded fruits and vegetables; barbeque and hot sauces; wine and beer; sausage and meat products; cheeses; honey; and jams and jellies, just to name a few. To request a copy of the directory, contact Melanie Rapp, Marketing Specialist, with the Delaware Department of Agriculture at 302-698-4522 or by e-mail at Melanie.Rapp@state.de.us The directory can also be found on the Delaware Department of Agriculture’s web site: www.state.de.us/deptagri
