Tri-Gas and Oil now offering Agri-Blend home heating oil

12.13.05

It’s called Agri-Blend. It’s a home heating oil. And it’s made with soybeans.
Agri-Blend, which contains two percent soybean oil by volume, is being marketed by Tri-Gas and Oil, one of the region’s leading purveyors of soy-based biodiesel as an alternative fuel.
Agri-Blend heating oil, the company said, is “the sensible alternative to conventional petroleum heating oil for its retail customers.” It is compatible with standard oil furnaces, requiring no equipment modifications,
“This unique formulation of refined soybean oil, performance-enhancing additives, and No. 2 petroleum heating oil results in a new product that is 100 percent compatible with all existing oil-fired furnaces and boilers used for home heating,” Tri-Gas officials said.
The new product, which is created at Tri-Gas utilizing its own state-of-the-art storage, blending and loading facilities, was introduced Saturday, Dec. 3, at an open house at the Tri-Gas facility near Federalsburg.
The event attracted an estimated 300, including state officials from both Maryland and Delaware, and a large contingent of farmers.
Seth Powell, the firm’s alternative fuels specialist, said that based on Tri-Gas sales of home heating oil last winter, a savings of 600,000 gallons of petroleum heating oil could be realized if all of those customers switched to B2 Agri-Blend.
Tri-Gas officials hailed the benefits of the new product. Because it contains less sulfur than conventional heating oil, they said, Agri-Blend reduces harmful emissions such as sulfur dioxide (a major cause of acid rain) into the atmosphere – making it an environmentally friendly fuel.
Since it burns cleaner than conventional heating oil, the fuel “helps clean your furnace as well as the air you breathe, reducing equipment maintenance costs over time.”
Also, special additives reduce moisture, boost heating value per gallon of fuel, and improve the quality of fuel stored in tanks over long periods of time.
Agri-Blend is made with soybeans, a renewable source of domestically-produced energy, “helping America reduce its dependence on foreign oil and helping the farmers by sustaining demand for their soybean crops,” the company said.
Tri-Gas & Oil is offering the new product at no additional charge over conventional heating oil. For more information visit the Web site at www.trigas-oil.com.
Soy-blended home heating oil also is being marketed by Tevis Oil in Central Maryland and Cropper Oil on the Lower Eastern Shore, testifying to the growing popularity of alternative fuels not only for automotive but for other uses as well.
Tri-Gas is expected to trademark Agri-Blend, underlining the company’s commitment to biofuels marketing,
