Cumberland County grower/shipper tops at ’07 New Jersey Peach Festival

8.15.2007

MULLICA HILL — Adamucci Farms in Bridgeton was the winner of the Governor’s Cup at the New Jersey Peach Festival.
Carmen Adamucci Jr. was presented the cup by New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Charles Kuperus and District 3 Sen. Steve Sweeney, Assemblyman John Burzichelli and Assemblyman Doug H. Fisher on July 27 at the awards ceremony and growers reception at the Mullica Hill 4-H Fairgrounds.
Around 81 entries were displayed in the commercial peach pack competition from New Jersey growers and packers.
Technically, only the entries in the commercial competition are eligible for the cup because they represent random selections collected from packing house and storages by Agricultural Agent, Jerome L. Frecon, Extension.
Ms. Tara Weeast, of Williamstown, N.J., was selected New Jersey Peach Queen. She will be representing the industry at peach promotional events throughout the year.
Many other peach educational displays and events were conducted and capped by a visit from Governor Jon Corzine, on Sunday afternoon at the Peach Festival main tent.
Approximately 25,000 people attend the event each year, which kicks off the heavy volume peach season.
The New Jersey Peach Festival is the official peach festival of the sate of New Jersey. It is an annual educational and promotional exhibition of the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council and the New Jersey Peach Festival, Inc.
