Delaware dairy youth compete in junior futurity

HARRINGTON, Del. — Delaware junior dairy youth competed recently in the 2010 Delaware Junior Dairy Futurity for summer calves of all breeds. Held during the Delaware State Fair, the futurity spotlights young people with an interest in the dairy industry. It is sponsored by the Delaware Holstein Association and the Delaware State Fair.
The animals exhibited in the 2010 Futurity were calved in the summer of 2009 and were first entered in the fall of 2009, long before most people were thinking about the 2010 Delaware State Fair.
The winner of the 2010 futurity and $500 was Emervest Giller Licorice exhibited by Dustin Warren of Smyrna, Del. The June 2009 Jersey heifer calf was out of Emervest Senzas Licorice- ET by Shamrock Giller.
This entry also received the Best Bred and Owned Award of $100 for the highest placing calf bred and owned by the exhibitor. The award is presented by the Delaware Holstein Association to honor the many contributions of Sam and Myrtle Dixon to the young people involved in Delaware’s dairy industry. Incidentally, Dustin is the great grandson of Sam and Myrtle Dixon.
Second place and $400 was awarded to the Holstein entry Rob-Sara Debonair Go-Red-ET exhibited by Megan Dempsey of Dover, Del.
Third place and $300 was awarded to the Holstein entry of Dixiedel Jackson Fern exhibited by Courtney Cook of Dover, Del.
Fourth place and $200 was awarded to the Holstein entry of Ms Rob-Sara Laurin Poni 1829 exhibited by Tara Morris of Newark. Fifth place and $100 was awarded to the Holstein entry of Miss AV Laurin Charm exhibited by Dylan Voss of Clayton.
The 2010 Delaware Junior Dairy Futurity judge was Doug Seidel, the farm manager of Pintail Point in Queenstown, Md. Seidel and his wife, Joan, were the previous owners of Camelot Cattle Company and are well known in the dairy cattle show arena.

Del. 4-Hers compete in dairy show at state fair
Harrington, Del. — Thirty-one Delaware 4-H members ranging in ages from six to 17 competed in the Delaware 4-H Dairy Show held during the 91st Annual Delaware State Fair.
The results of the 2010 Delaware 4-H Dairy Show are as follows:
Champion showman was Logan Derickson, Middletown, Summit Bridge 4-H Club.
Reserve champion showman was Brent Ashley, Felton, Harrington Sunshine 4-H Club.
Ayrshire junior champion was Duland Mowhawk Ada exhibited by Ryan Wheatley of Clayton, New Horizons 4-H Club.
Ayrshire grand champion was Duland Mowhawk Ada exhibited by Ryan Wheatley of Clayton, New Horizons 4-H Club.
Brown Swiss junior champion was Zahncroft Galaxy Chelsea exhibited by Jaycie Kerrick, Greenwood, Bridgeville Mustangs 4-H Club.
Brown Swiss senior champion was Lukes Prelude Divine exhibited by Dunovan Ivory, Wyoming, Westville 4-H Club.
