In the National Turkey Barbeque and Presentation Contest, Phillip Ryan Clauer, of State College, won a $400 savings bond for placing second.
“We strongly encourage young people to participate in one of these poultry contests,” said Phillip J. Clauer, senior instructor in poultry science in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences. “These activities provide exceptional learning experiences, a lot of fun and excellent awards.”
Clauer noted that since 2002, Pennsylvania delegates annually have done very well in this national event, which helps 4-Hers learn to make and defend decisions, gain skills in public speaking and increase knowledge in poultry-related subject matter.
