Kelly Moore
Iowa State University

Kelly Moore, of Sudlersville, Md., always thought she would be a veterinarian, but she could never bring herself to draw blood from an animal.
“I had agriculture in my blood and I wanted to continue that tradition,” she said.
When Moore started working with Punnett squares and genetics in high school biology, a light bulb went off.
“My dad is on the soybean board,” Moore said. “He got me interested in the advances being made with plant genetics.”
Moore works with Schillinger Seed, in Queenstown, Md., helping to collect data for their soybean genetics program.
“I’ve already learned some of the basics and how a genetics firm operates,” she said.
Moore will pursue a degree in genetics at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University this fall.
Moore participates in several 4-H projects, showing hogs and cows and selling them at live auctions.  She also competes in the indoor exhibits sewing, baking, and presenting her arts and crafts.
The Delmarva Farmer is sponsoring Moore because of her desire to make the best agriculture even better.
“It has been a great help and will give me a head start to college,” she said.

“Agriculture has been the basis of my life and hasa helped me become the person I am today” Excerpt from Moore’s essay
