Chet Price Hagerstown Community College Chet Price’s family farm, in Keedysville, Md., surrounded him with love, support and mechanics. “It put me on the path to mechanical engineering,” he said.
He hopes his education will steer him back along the trail towards agriculture. The Delmarva Farmer has sponsored Price to help him with that journey.
As a freshman at Hagerstown Community College, Price is participating in the pre-engineering program. He said he is intrigued by diesel motors and hones his engineering skills on and off the farm.
“Paying for college is hard, anything you get helps,” he said.
Price wrote in his scholarship essay that today’s suffering economy requires advances in technology, efficiency and production. He wrote about agricultural efficiency and the importance of saving money and the environment.
“Cleaner engines, less resistance, better oils, stronger hydraulics – all will help the farming community and make it easier for farmers and customers alike,” he wrote.
While his inspiration may come from the mechanical side of agriculture, it’s his family’s farm that has given Price his excellent work ethic.
“I know not everything will be handed to you, you have to work for it,” he said.
“Not only does my field of study relate to my past in agriculture, but it clearly leads to my future on a path towards agriculture as well” - Excerpt from Price’s essay
