Kristina Ruffner

Virginia Tech

Kristina Ruffner, of Stanley, Va., is a go-getter.  She’s already a semester ahead at Virginia Tech and has field experience working as a vet assistant at the Blue Mountain Clinic.
The Delmarva Farmer chose to sponsor Ruffner for her self-motivation and determination.
“Agriculture is my passion,” Ruffner said.
Ruffner grew up on a beef cattle farm in Stanley and knew Virginia Tech was the perfect school for her.  “They have a dairy barn,” she said.
A former 4-Her and active member of the FFA, Ruffner has joined the VT Young Farmers, Swine Club and Pre-Vet Club.
Her classes at Virginia Tech include Intro to Animal and Poultry Science and Livestock Handling and Management.
“I get tons of hands-on experience,” she said.
Ruffner’s favorite part of vet work is the diagnosis.  “I can use my knowledge as well as lab technique to solve the problem.”
For Ruffner, farming is a way of life. “Animals are born, they get sick, and they can die.  It makes you stronger and gives you a realistic view of the world.”

“I take pride in my work ethic.  I credit it to life on the farm” - Excerpt from Ruffner’s essay
